Andreaeaceae is a genus of rock mosses that consists of two genera, Andreaea, containing about 100 species, and Acroschisma. The members of this family prefer rocky habitats in tropical to arctic climates, where they form tufted colonies, usually with reddish to blackish shoots. The capsules lack the peristome, and dehisce longitudinally to release its spores, making them resemble a paper-lantern in appearance.
